Police eject gunmen seeking ‘stolen sheep’ from Dreige camp, South Darfur
Dozens of gunmen invaded Dreige camp near Nyala in South Darfur on Thursday, creating a state of fear and panic and tension among the displaced. Youth representatives of the camp told Radio Dabanga on Thursday, that 50 gunmen on camels stormed the camp saying their sheep had been stolen and that they followed their tracks into the site. “The leaders of the displaced people made clear to the gunmen that no sheep were brought to the camp, and if they were, they would help the militants find their sheep,” an activist said. The gunmen then left the displaced with an ultimatum, giving them 90 minutes to tell them where the tracks led to. If not, the camp residents would have to give them their own sheep. “The police then intervened and ejected the gunmen from the camp, however the militants are still lingering outside the camp,” the activist said. “People are very afraid; many fled, took their belongings with them and entered Nyala.” File photo
