Party official details plan to further divide Darfur administration
Professor El Amin Daffala, secretary-general of the higher council for
decentralization, said that there will be an interim period in Darfur
after the states’ council approve the creation of two new states
within Darfur (Zalingei and El Daein). He affirmed that there will be
no elections at state level or parliamentary level in the four states
(Nyala, El Daein, Zalingei and Geneina) and that the president of the
republic would appoint new governors and members of parliament (MPs).
He also stated that no MP would lose his seat and that MPs who were
representatives in West and South Darfur would remain in their
original states and members who are from East and Central Darfur would
go to their new states.
