Over 300 students arrested in dawn raids in Khartoum
At dawn on Friday, police raided student accomodation at the University of Khartoum arresting and assaulting hundreds of students. A student told Radio Dabanga that a large force of police and security personnel stormed the dormitories at 4:00 am, beating and arresting over 300 students. The detainees were distributed across 10 police stations in the capital, including El Riyad, Khartoum North and Jabra. Authorities were prevented from visiting the students, and all were refused release. The witness added that the majority of detained students were from Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile states, as they were unable to travel back home to their families following the closing down of the university 47 days ago by authorities after a series of recent protests and debates.
