Opposition leader: government failed to provide aid to N. Darfur

An opposition leader and member of parliament in Khartoum is calling on national organizations to immediately provide support to displaced civilians in North Darfur, “after the government’s failure” to do it. Dr. Ismail Hussein declared that, instead of delivering aid, the government has created “obstacles and impediments” for international organizations to provide assistance. On this note, a Zalingei camps’ coordinator in Central Darfur told Radio Dabanga the government of Sudan is obstructing the movement of any vehicle carrying food from Zalingei to the localities of Al-Sref Beni Hussein, Saraf Omra and Kabkabiya.    The opposition leader is appealing to national organizations to immediately join foreign agencies in offering humanitarian relief to the North Darfur displaced “before they die of hunger or of diseases”.Thousands were displaced around the Saraf Omra, Kabkabiya and Al-Sref Beni Hussein localities following the tribal clashes between Abbala and Beni Hussein almost three weeks ago in North Darfur.Radio Dabanga file photoRelated: ‘Aid in warehouses, not distributed’: N.
