Opposition agrees to accelerate ‘peaceful political action’

Three opposition parties issued a joint statement agreeing to accelerate their ‘peaceful political action’ to prepare the country for the imminent regime change after an exceptional meeting held in London on Wednesday November 14, Radio Dabanga learned.
The opposition parties that attended the meeting are the National Umma Party, headed by Imam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, the Popular Congress Party, headed by Dr. Al-Turabi, and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), headed by Malik Agar.
The three parties decided to accelerate their ‘peaceful political action’ and signed a joint statement committing to the decision. The joint statement aims at completing the dialogue between the opposition parties on issues such as the transformation and transition period.
The statement was signed by Nasr al-Deen Hadi al-Mahdi; on behalf of the Umma Party, Dr. Ali al-Haj; on behalf of the Popular Congress Party and Yasir Arman; on behalf of the SPLM.
‘Democratic Initiative’
The vice-president of the Umma party, Nasr al-Deen Hadi al-Mahdi, told Radio Dabanga that Sudan’s urgent national issues were addressed during the meeting, with the political transition and new arrangements for the next phase as the main topics.
He added that all parties agreed on a common vision for the ‘democratic initiative’ after the fall of the regime. Additionally, the parties agreed to further develop their common vision and convert it to a common charter.
Al-Mahdi added to Radio Dabanga that the meeting also called on the opposition, in Sudan and abroad, to develop an agreement ensuring a shared vision on how Sudan should be ruled after the demise of the current regime.
