One health centre for 180,000 people in South Darfur’s Mershing
The residents of Mershing locality in South Darfur suffer from a deterioration of health services and a shortage of affordable medicines.
A listener told Radio Dabanga from Mershing that the more than 180,000 people living in the locality are depending on one small health centre. ”The centre cannot accommodate more than 50 patients a day. The others are forced to wait until the next day to be seen by a nurse.”
He said that they used to enjoy “excellent health services in the past, thanks to foreign organisations who managed the Mershing Hospital.
“After the withdrawal of the organisations, the people have had to make do with just one health centre in the area. We all hope and pray that the humanitarian organisations will return to Mershing and resume their work at the hospital.”
