Omda assassinated in Jebel Marra

Third assault on politician in Nertiti city

Abdul Karim Babiker Suleiman, an omda (leader) of Jebel Marra, was shot dead by gunmen in an ambush on Sunday in a refugee camp north of the city of Nertiti.Prior to Abdul Karim’s assassination, armed men had also abducted a female member of legislative council Hawa Mohammed Arbab from her farm near the city of Nertiti in West Darfur.

Reliable sources in Nertiti told Radio Dabanga that another omda, Tijani Saifuddin Babiker, had also been abducted by armed men from his home in the city a month ago. There is speculation that the same group might be behind the assassination as well.

Sources told Radio Dabanga that the police had filed a case regarding all three incidents.
