Oil exploration survey in East Darfur
The state authorities of East Darfur and the Ministry of Oil have agreed to start a seismic operation survey for possible oil exploration on November 25, in an area of 490 kilometers, at square 6 of Abu Karinka locality in East Darfur, Radio Dabanga has learned on Monday November 12. State Minister of Agriculture, Mastour Mohamed Abdullah, reportedly stated in an interview with a Khartoum based newspaper on Sunday that they reached an agreement with the Ministry of Oil on compensating the area’s residents with an amount of 5,000 Sudanese Pounds. Abdullah stressed that the Government of Sudan, represented by the federal Ministry of Oil and the Chinese company responsible for executing the work, are committed to pay the compensation to the affected residents. The minister said that the payment will be arranged through a higher committee and administration, after completion of the work in each sector.On his part, Nazir of the Maalya tribe, Mohamed Ahmed, requested petroleum companies to develop the designated areas and create employment opportunities for the region’s residents. Additionally, he requested the fulfillment of the compensation and to minimize the negative environmental impact.
