Students of the University of Nyala called on the chairman of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority (TDRA), Senior Presidential Assistant Minni Arcua Minawi, to take action to halt the fees charged by examination committees. The fees are being charged contrary to a stipulation of the Darfur Peace Agreement, according to a student leader. The TDRA is the principal organ for implementation of the 2006 Darfur Peace Agreement. The peace agreement promised “exemption from the payment of school fees for new students of Darfurian origin at all levels, for a period of five years.” Abdul Rasoul Ibrahim Omar Amin, secretary of the student association at the University of Nyala, said that the university did not exempt students from the fees.
