The strike by Nyala hospital’s doctors in South Darfur entered its second week on Friday without any solution in sight. The doctors in Nyala went on strike for the second time two weeks ago to demand for better working conditions. The strike has resulted in terrible deterioration of health in the region with two-three deaths being recorded every day.
The nurses have been in charge of patients since the doctors went on strike. One of the striking doctors told Radio Dabanga that the prevailing situation in the hospital is only reflective of the government’s attitude towards its people.
“The government of South Darfur’s refusal to meet the demands of the doctors shows the neglect among the administration. We want them to pay us the due amount of money and plead apology to the people of South Darfur who have been put at risk,” the doctor said.
He added that they would like a resignation from the hospital administration as well as the government officials responsible for this situation.
