North Darfur herders’ attack leaves one farmer dead
A farmer was killed and two others sustained bullet wounds in an attack by militant herders in Tawila locality in North Darfur on Wednesday.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Omda Mukhtar Bosh, the coordinator of the Tawila camps for the displaced reported that a group of militant herders from the areas of El Malam, Kabkabiya, and El Gubba drove hundreds of camels and cattle on farmlands south of Tawila town early this week.
“A number of displaced farmers voluntarily returned to their places of origin during the current agricultural season. The janjaweed however now forced them to return to the camps,” he said.

“The militants told the farmers that the farming area has been transformed into pastures. They threatened to kill them if they would return again to their farms.”
Bosh said that displaced farmer Ahmed Ismail was shot dead and two colleagues were seriously injured near Tarny on Wednesday when they attempted to chase the livestock from their land.
