North Darfur displaced living rough refuse relocation

The displaced people living in Bashem and Sany Haya, 20 km north-west of Mellit town in North Darfur, have refused the decision of local authorities to move to another place near an army garrison, owing to the lack of protection and security. One of the displaced, whose villages were burned and their livestock looted by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in March, told Radio Dabanga that 9,500 escapees are residing at their current location. “We are living near the headquarters of Unamid, but out in the open, without water, food, or medicines.” He appealed to the UN and its Security Council to intervene to protect them, and asked humanitarian organisations to immediately provide assistance to them. South Darfur displaced receive new registration In South Darfur state, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the UN decided on Sunday to add two registration centres to El Salam camp in Nyala, in addition to the old centre. This in order to speed up the correction of the names of previously registered newly displaced persons. Their number has amounted to 6,578. Mahjoub Adam Tabeldiya, one of the sheikhs of El Salam, predicted to Radio Dabanga that the correction of names might be completed during this first week.
