North Darfur banker abducted ‘for the second time’
An employee of the Livestock Bank in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, has been abducted for the second time in less than a month. On Sunday, Salah Siddiq Juma Abdulah, was abducted by pro-government militiamen and taken to an unknown location. In a press statement, Abdulah’s father said that his son’s vehicle was intercepted near to Algeel Technical Secondary School as he made his was way to work on Sunday. The vehicle was found near the school. He said that received a call from the kidnappers demanding a ransom of SDG 1 million ($176,000) for the release of his son. He then received another call demanding the payment of SDG 700,000 ($123,000). “The kidnappers told me they had abducted me for the second time because I had not paid a ransom the previous time.” Abdulah was previously abducted on 18 March, and released after three days.
