No graduation certificates for 600 Darfuri students in Khartoum
The Sudan University for Science and Technology in Khartoum has barred 600 Darfuri students from receiving their graduation certificates.
The head of the Darfuri Students Association (DSA) branch of the Sudan University told Radio Dabanga that the management decided not to hand the certificates, on the pretext that “some entities have failed to pay for the tuition fees for the students”.
The Sudan University for Science and Technology in Khartoum has barred 600 Darfuri students from receiving their graduation certificates.
The head of the Darfuri Students Association (DSA) branch of the Sudan University told Radio Dabanga that the management on Monday issued a decision not to hand the certificates, on the pretext that “some entities have failed to pay for the tuition fees for the students”.
He described the decision as unjust, and demanded via Radio Dabanga from the university administration to “immediately hand the graduates their certificates”.
The DSA head stressed that the Darfuri graduates, who finished their exams eight months ago, were enrolled according to the 2011 Doha Document for Peace in Darfur that stipulates free education for Darfuri students. “They are to be admitted to Sudanese universities on the basis of registration fees only.”
The DSA has appealed to all “official and non-official bodies in Sudan, to intervene and resolve this problem,” he added.
