Nighttime attacks reported at Gezira University dorms
Female students from Darfur enrolled at the Gezira University in El-Jazeera complained about attacks on their dormitories at nighttime carried out by members of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS), Radio Dabanga was informed. A witness from the Al-Managil wing said that security officers climbed the walls of several dormitories at about 8pm on Friday, 7 December. However, the loud screams of scared students and appeals from local residents led the alleged perpetrators to flee, she explained. Nevertheless, the security officers returned later that night, at 2:30am, and reportedly broke windows of the dormitories, causing widespread panic among the students and depriving them of sleep. In addition, they ordered the students to leave the dormitories immediately. According to the witness, the victims expressed their gratitude to the people of Al-Managil, who host more than 120 students from Darfur at their homes.Radio Dabanga file photo
