NCF demands UN investigation into killing of anti-government protesters in Sudan
The Sudanese opposition umbrella group, the National Consensus Forces (NCF), has officially requested UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to form an international committee to investigate the killing of peaceful protestors by police forces during the recent anti-government demonstrations in Sudan. In an official letter sent by the Chairperson of the NCF, Farouk Abu Eisa, last Thursday, the opposition forces demand an immediate intervention from the UN and human rights organisations and to hold Sudan’s President Omar el Bashir responsible for the killing of the citizens. The NCF consists of 20 opposition parties, most notably the Popular Congress Party, led by the Islamist leader Dr Hassan el Turabi, the National Umma Party, led by el Sadig Abdelrahman el Mahdi and the Sudanese Communist Party under the leadership of Mohamed Mukhtar el Khatib.
