MP calls for landmine investigation in eastern Sudan
More than 80 people were killed and 180 others injured by detonating landmines in eastern Sudan during the past months. Mohamed El Taher Ousham, Member of Parliament for Hameshkoreib, on Sunday handed a report with figures about landmine victims in eastern Sudan this year to the chairman of the Parliament. In a statement to the press, Ousham demanded from the Minister of Defence, Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein, to set up an investigation into the presence of the many landmines in the eastern part of the country. The MP stressed the need for the allocation of funds from the Eastern Sudan Reconstruction Fund for Demining.
