‘Most refugees in Libya from Darfur, South Kordofan’

Tens of thousands of Sudanese refugees in Libya belong to the states of Darfur and South Kordofan, an academic research group said on Thursday. The Sudanese Center for Contemporary Studies said that refugees in Libya face harsh living conditions, including killing, imprisonment, threats and torture. They also suffer from shortage of food, water and medicines. According to the Cairo-based center, Sudanese refugees in Salloum in Egypt and Shusha camp in Tunisia face similar atrocities. “The regime in Khartoum should take moral and criminal responsibility for the condition of the Sudanese refugees in Libya. The International Criminal Court (ICC) should include these events in the series of crimes of genocide against the people of Darfur and Kordofan,” the center declared. It also called for human rights organizations and humanitarian organizations to intervene to protect Sudanese civilians in Libya.
