More deaths from violence, disease in West Darfur
In Foro Baranga locality, West Darfur, two people have been shot dead on Saturday by unidentified armed men in reportedly unrelated incidents. A witness informed Radio Dabanga that armed men stopped Mohamed Khamis on his way back from his farmland to the village Jimeiza Babakir around 7pm on Saturday evening. The gunmen wanted his motorcycle. When Khamis refused, they shot at him. He died instantly, after which they stole his motorcycle and fled. Khamis was buried in Foro Baranga town on Sunday. In El Kifah district of Foro Baranga town an unknown gunman called for Juma El Tahir Balla (aka Katir) at around 11pm on Saturday evening. When Balla came out of his house, he was shot dead on the spot. The killer fled immediately. Balla worked as a bus ticket seller at the Nyala bus station in Foro Baranga. Residents of the Sirba camps for the displaced, West Darfur, have complained of thefts and robberies by militiamen. One of the camp sheikhs Radio Dabanga that within one week in total SDG185,000 ($41,554) and 50 sheep, in addition to large numbers of mobile phones and other properties have been stolen from the displaced people. The sheikh appealed to the authorities to stop the crimes and to bring the perpetrators to justice. In the Ronga Tas camp for the displaced, West Darfur, a number of children and elderly have died of diarrhoea and malaria, due to the absence of health care. A camp sheikh informed Radio Dabanga that at least 18 people died within the last two weeks.
