Minawi threatens return to war if Abuja Agreement not kept
The Sudan Liberation Movement faction of Minni Minawi threatened to return to war in the absence of implementation of the terms of the Abuja Agreement, in particular the security arrangements. Minawi accused the National Congress Party of not being serious about implementing the Abuja Agreement (Darfur Peace Agreement) signed in May 2005. Minnawi, who is currently among his troops on the ground in Abu Leha in North Darfur, called for his soldiers to remain united and keep their hand on the trigger. These remarks come amid negotiations on the formation of a new national government and the resumption of peace talks in Doha between the government and other Darfuri armed groups.
