Minawi proposes to mediate inter-Arab fighting in S. Darfur
Minni Minawi, the head of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority, visited Nyala and called on the South Darfur government to solve the conflict between the Sa’ada and the Abbala Rizeigat, both of which are Arabic speaking tribes of Darfur. Minawi proposes to lead a committee to mediate the conflict.Minawi stipulated that the government should not interfere with the work of this committee. He has now left for El Fasher. In recent days, conflict broke out between Arab tribes in Wahda locality of South Darfur. Over 100 were reportedly killed.Minawi formerly participated in the Darfur rebellion. In 2006 he led a faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement in signing a peace deal with the government.Meanwhile, dozens of families fled the recent fighting to the Domayo suburb west of Nyala. A witness told Radio Dabanga that they had neither shelter nor food. They left some injured behind on the battlefield due to insecurity and lack of transport but they were able to carry three women to the Nyala Hospital.
