Militias confiscate goods, beat displaced in Darfur
A group of South Darfur displaced persons was beaten by pro-government militias on their way back home to camp Tom Kitir on Monday.They had been collecting firewood in the vicinity of the camp, situated in Marshang locality. One of the victims said militias confiscated their carts and logs and threatened to kill them if they returned to that area.He stressed this is the second incident of its kind in less than a week and asked how the displaced are “supposed to earn their living if collecting firewood and hay are their only sources of income”.Victims called upon authorities to protect the displaced and bring perpetrators to justice.File photo by Albert González Farran/ UNAMID
