Militiamen storm South Darfur camp, beat and rob displaced
Militiamen have reportedly plundered the Hashaba camp for the displaced in the locality of Mershing, South Darfur. One man was injured. A camp resident told Radio Dabanga that “government-backed militias who have attacked the camp more than once before” stormed into the camp at about 9pm on 11 November, shooting into the air. They began pillaging the houses inside and outside the camp and assaulted the residents. They stole the mobile phone from Idris Adam Hussein, a camp resident after severely beating him. He was transferred to hospital for treatment. The source also reported that in the afternoon of the same day, “the same militiamen” had attacked camp residents Mohamed Ahmed Adam and Ahmed Mohamed Hussein. The men were on their way to collect firewood in the area of Um Shijeirat near Manawashi. The militiamen robbed them of their three donkeys. “The camp residents no longer dare to leave their homes after 6pm. They even do not go out to perform their prayers in the mosque.” The camp resident requested the local authorities to provide security and appealed to Unamid to run patrols in order to protect the camp.
