Militiamen run amok in South and West Darfur

A number of basic school students of Keile camp for the displaced, Mershing locality in South Darfur, were assaulted by militiamen on Saturday. Militiamen on Monday shot dead a man inside his house in Jebel Moon locality in West Darfur. On Sunday, gunmen stole a number of livestock in the south of Jebel Moon locality. A sheikh of the Keile camp told Radio Dabanga that “government-backed militiamen” attacked a number of basic school students on Saturday while they were collecting firewood south of the camp. The militiamen beat them with batons and whips, causing varying injuries. Seven seriously wounded students had to be transferred to the Mershing hospital.  West DarfurThe spokesman for the Sirba camps in West Darfur told Radio Dabanga that three “government-backed militiamen” at about 2am on Monday stormed into the house of Abdel Salam Adam Mohamedein (25) in Abu Rimeil village, Jebel Moon locality, and shot him dead. The reason for the killing was unclear, the spokesman said. The incident was reported to the police who went to the scene, without persecuting the offenders. The spokesman also reported that five Janjaweed on camels and horses on Sunday stole 20 sheep and nine cows in the area of Abu Lijam, and six cows from the area of Timbistat in the south of Jebel Moon locality. West Darfur

The spokesman for the Sirba camps in West Darfur told Radio Dabanga that three “government-backed militiamen” at about 2am on Monday stormed into the house of Abdel Salam Adam Mohamedein (25) in Abu Rimeil village, Jebel Moon locality, and shot him dead.

The reason for the killing was unclear, the spokesman said. The incident was reported to the police who went to the scene, without persecuting the offenders.
