Lorry ambushed, passengers robbed in North Darfur
A passengers’ lorry was ambushed on the Tawila-El Fasher road on Saturday. On Friday a woman was killed and 12 others wounded in a traffic accident in the area of Birkat Seira in North Darfur. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, one of the victims reported that “government-backed militiamen on camels” intercepted a lorry, on its way from Tawila town to El Fasher, at about 4pm on Saturday. “At about 3km from Tawila, the gunmen appeared firing shots into the air. They told us to disembark, and robbed us of SDG50,000 ($8,735), our mobile phones, and all our luggage. They then took the lorry, with all the goods on board, and fled in the direction of Kabkabiya.” In another incident, a vehicle overturned on the Birkat Seira-Gharat El Zawya road on Friday. It was carrying a group of people on their way from to participate in a social event, a witness of the accident told Radio Dabanga. “The vehicle was driving too fast. One woman died, and 12 others were wounded.” Four critically injured passengers were transferred to Saraf Omra hospital for treatment.
