Looting and pillaging throughout Darfur
Eight displaced people from the Bir Dageeg camp in the Sirba locality in West Darfur state reportedly have been seriously injured on Tuesday after a vehicle of the Border Guards drove into them. A sheikh of Bir Dageeg told Radio Dabanga that a group of displaced people were waiting at the side of the road for the vehicle in which they were travelling to be repaired. The group was returning home to the camp after having visited the market in Kandabi, when their vehicle broke down.While they were waiting, a car belonging to the Border Guards approached them in high-speed and hit them, which resulted in injury of eight passengers. The seriously wounded have been taken to Bir Dageeg hospital for treatment. The sheikh confirmed that a complaint was filed and that the police was able to apprehend the perpetrators who were transferred to Bir Dageeg prison. The camp elder demanded from the Sirba locality commissioner to put an end to the abuses and violations of the militias. Dumma camp In South Darfur state, militiamen allegedly attacked the Dumma displaced camp, Manawashi, and looted money and property on a large scale, according to Hussein Abu Sharati, spokesman for the Association of Displaced Persons and Refugees of Darfur. Abu Sharati confirmed to Radio Dabanga that on Tuesday evening a group of militias attacked Dumma camp, firing shots thick in the air before they started to pillage money and properties of the displaced, including jewellery, mobile phones, bicycles and motorcycles.A displaced man named Ahmed Gadam Mohamed was seriously injured and transported to Nyala hospital for treatment. Abu Sharati demanded from Unamid to set up night patrols to protect the displaced. Mukjar In Mukjar, Central Darfur state, militiamen looted a Nissan car in Arigso area, 10km east of Mukjar. An eyewitness told Radio Dabanga that five militiamen riding on camels stopped a commercial Nisan wagon under a hail of fire.The car was coming from Foro Baranga and was on its way to Kubum in the area of Arigso. The militiamen looted everything the passengers possessed: money, luggage, and goods such as soap, onions and foodstuffs.
