A delegation of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM), led by deputy chairperson Ahmed Abdul Shafi (also known as Toba), will arrive in Khartoum on Tuesday to start implementation of the Doha agreement. The Doha agreement was signed between the Sudanese government and the LJM in July, earlier this year. The peace agreement signed between the two parties has faced criticism from various groups for being partial and not involving the major resistance movements in Darfur.
The delegation, coming from Nairobi, will prepare to pave the way for the return of the rest of members headed by Dr Tijani Sese.
Ahmed Abdul Shafi Toba told Radio Dabanga, “We are in Khartoum to give effect to what we agreed upon in the Doha talks, and to decide on the schedule for the implementation of the peace agreement.”
Ahmed Abdul added that the delegation will discuss political and administrative issues and the problem of detainees as a result of the Darfur conflict with the government in Khartoum.
“Our arrival in Khartoum at a critical time, given there are battles in South Kordofan and Blue Nile. While there has to implementation of peace in Darfur, there should also be an immediate cessation of fighting in South Kordofan and Blue Nile,” the deputy chairperson said.
He appealed to the people of Darfur to support the Doha agreement and work together for its implementation.
