Four opposition groups in Sudan signed an alliance in order to topple the Sudanese regime, in Kauda region of the Nuba Mountains, on Sunday. The alliance was signed between Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (Northern Sector) (SPLM Northern Sector), Sudan Liberation Movements headed by Abdul Wahid (SLM-AW), Sudan Liberation Movement headed by Minni Minawi (SLM-MM) and the SPLM (Southern Kordofan Sector).
The signed document holds a proposition to topple the regime of the National Congress Party (NCP) through military action. “We strive for a secular, liberal, democratic Sudan based on citizenship — a real and complete separation of religion and government,” the spokesperson of SLM-MM, Adam Salih told Radio Dabanga.
At the end of June, the SLM-AW and the SLM-MM had already signed an agreement, aimed at political and military cooperation for bringing down the regime of the NCP. They had then stressed the need for a framework of a comprehensive solution for the whole of Sudan that would address the historical roots of the country’s crisis in Darfur.
