Lack of funds leads to teachers’ shortage
Lack of funding is causing Sudanese students from camp Farchanain in eastern Chad to face a shortage of textbooks, furniture and teachers, a tutor informed Radio Dabanga on Monday, 17 December. Mohamed al-Fadel said that basic school students must often follow classes sitting on the ground. He added that an organization working in the field of education brought a mattress so pupils had a place to sit during classes, but that was not enough to accommodate everyone. Besides, school children are suffering from an acute shortage of teachers at the camp, according to al-Fadel. He explained that there are about 5.000 children enrolled in school this year, while the number of teachers does not exceed 84. Al-Fadel appealed to educational organizations to intervene and address these issues.Radio Dabanga file photoRelated: Refugee pupils facing material, teacher shortage (6 December 2012)
