Khazan Tunjur residents arrested

Government forces and militias arrested three citizens, including two minors, from ‘Khartoum Belail’ village of Khazan Tunjur, East Jebel Marra in North Darfur on Tuesday September 11. A witness from the area told Radio Dabanga that local government militias, led by Hadi Abdullah Abdel Rahman Abu al-Basher, arrested Aldeen Abdullah Mohammed, Mudassar Abdel Karim Saleh and Issa Mohammed Arbab from ‘Khartoum Belail’ village. He added that the militias, backed by government forces, tortured the three detainees severely before taking them to their headquarters in Khazan Tunjur. At the headquarters, the detainees were tortured again and were taken to the National Intelligence and Security Services’ (NISS) headquarters in El-Fasher on Wednesday morning September 12.The witness explained that the government forces arrested the two young men (Aldeen and Mudassar), as they were reading El-Awail, a local private newspaper. They were accused of following-up on pro-opposition news. He added that the third detainee, the young men’s uncle,  was beaten and arrested himself when he went to inquire about his relatives’ beating.In the same context, residents of East Jebel Marra accused Hadi Abdullah Abdulrahman Abu al-Basher, leader of pro-government militias in the area, of killing civilians and recruiting minors to take them to war.A resident from East Jebel Marra appealed to the judicial and government authorities to arrest the militia leader and bring him to justice for killing, looting, blackmailing and abducting civilians through local gangs. In addition, he appealed to the ICC to add East Jebel Marra militias’ leader to the “wanted list”, which already includes Sudanese President Al-Bashir, the Sudanese Defense Minister Abdul Rahim Mohamed Hussein, South Kordofan Governor Ahmed Haroun and militia leader Ali Kushayb. “They should be brought to trial in The Hague, for war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity in Darfur and East Jebel Marra”, the citizen added to Radio Dabanga.
