Khartoum and South Darfur to be linked by rail before end 2013: Transport Minister
The Sudanese Ministry of Transport, Roads and Bridges, Ahmad Babikr Naharhas, has plans for the operation of a passenger train between Khartoum and Nyala before the end of the year. At a press conference on Wednesday, Naharas announced that a railway line linking Bakhit with Ed Daein will be completed before the end of the year. The link with Nyala is supposed to be completed early 2014. Nahar explained that the train carriages, that arrived in the country last week, are compatible with international standards. “Each unit consists of two locomotives, allowing back and forth movement, in addition to four modern compartments, each of which can accommodate 304 passengers.
