Kassab IDPs reject Doha agreement
Residents of Kassab internally displaced persons camp, North Darfur have rejected the offer made by Ibrahim Gambari, head of the hybrid AU/UN Mission in Darfur to support the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur. On Thursday Gambari met camp leaders and representatives of women and children to discuss recent developments on the peace process in Darfur, and to persuade them to support the Doha agreement. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga, residents refused the Doha agreement and to support the special Darfur court set up by the government. They complained that the Doha agreement does not meet their requirements and they do not feel represented by the signatories of the agreement. The witness said Gambari spoke of 2012 as the year of development in Darfur, however the camp leaders said there could be no development without security on the ground and under the continuing violations, killings and arrests. Camp representatives also said the only court to try crimes committed in Darfur would be the International Criminal Court, and they reject the special courts and role of special prosecutor set up last week.
