The residents of displaced camps around Kass, South Darfur, demanded from a UN official that more be done for women who are at risk of violence. They made their case at a meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, asking that the UN work to provide more protection and basic services for displaced women in camps in the region. One of the leaders of the displaced said that women worried about violence directed against them and rape. She pointed out that among other problems they face shortages of food and bedding in winter.
