Kalma camp demands food distribution
The Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) camp in Kalma, South Darfur today released an urgent appeal to the World Food Programme (WFP) to distribute food rations immediately, a source said to Radio Dabanga. This appeal comes on the 100th day since the WFP stopped all food aid to the camp. The programme required a change of ID card for people living at the camp. Camp residents were wary of changing cards for fear of a change in status, or a cessation of service which would mean they may have to return to their villages, said the source. The IDPs would change the cards if they could organize a meeting of the camp leaders with officials from the programme to discuss their worries. The WFP would only continue distributing food aid if the cards were renewed. The humanitarian coordinator for Kalma described the situation as catastrophic.
