Their arrests coincide with increased harassment of foreign journalists in Sudan. Visas, work permits and residence permits are no longer extended to foreign journalists. Those foreign journalists present in Sudan are closely monitored or kicked out of the country. The Egyptian journalist Shaimaa Adel was returned to Cairo after she was detained for 13 days for covering the protests against the regime.
A human rights journalist told Radio Dabanga he supports a strike held by Sudanese Network for Journalists on Wednesday, support arrested journalists calls on the government of Sudan for the freedom of expression.
