Role Overview

Dabanga is seeking an experienced consultant specialising in Shortwave (SW) transmission quality and frequency management. The consultant will be responsible for competitively positioning Radio Dabanga on the best available SW frequency for Sudan, securing optimal time slots, and ensuring cost-effective and flexible contracts. The role requires both strategic frequency planning and hands-on monitoring of SW transmission quality to ensure uninterrupted service.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and secure the best available SW transmission frequency for the geographic area of Sudan.
• Attend bi-annual frequency management conferences (up to 10 days per year) to ensure the best possible time slots for Dabanga.
• Develop strategies to enhance signal quality, coverage, and audience reach.
• Monitor and analyze transmission performance and interference issues (2-6 hours per month).
• Troubleshoot transmission issues to ensure continuity of service.
• Utilize industry knowledge and contacts to negotiate the best prices and contract flexibility for SW transmission services.
• Collaborate with technical teams and external partners for frequency coordination.
• Provide expert recommendations for improving transmission infrastructure.
• Prepare reports on findings, strategies, and implementation outcomes.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in Shortwave transmission and broadcasting in the Africa region.
• Proven expertise in SW frequency planning, allocation, and signal optimization by
  using ITU Recommendation 533 propagation prediction software.
• Strong network and contacts within the shortwave broadcasting industry.
• Experience in negotiating transmission contracts, pricing, and flexibility.
• Deep understanding of broadcast engineering, frequency coordination, and interference mitigation.
• Analytical skills to assess transmission data and make strategic recommendations.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with Dabanga’s mission and target audience is a plus.
