‘Intervene in food gap, price hikes’: North Darfur Parliament
The Legislative Council of North Darfur on Wednesday discussed the price hikes of cooking gas and other commodities, the food gap, and the fees increase imposed by El Fasher’s Water Corporation. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a resident of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, reported that the State Parliament wants the “problem of the water fees increase” to be addressed as soon as possible. The increase led to a rise in the price of a barrel of water in El Fasher to SDG5 ($0.90). The Parliament also demanded from the State Ministry of Finance to “immediately intervene to fill the food gap currently striking North Darfur, and review the food collection points”. The North Darfur Finance Ministry should also control the prices and distribution of cooking gas, as well as the prices of “strategic commodities”.
