Inter-clan fighting stops in Sudan’s West Kordofan

The death toll in the clashes between the Awlad Omran and Faleita clans of the Misseriya tribe on Wednesday and Thursday in Dibab locality, West Kordofan, has risen to 43. Witnesses in Dibab confirmed to Radio Dabanga that since Thursday the fighting has stopped completely, after the intervention of notables from the region. 43 tribesmen from both sides were killed, and 37 wounded. Fierce clashes between the two Misseriya clans had erupted on Wednesday in the areas of Um Baroun, El Dabkar, Yama, and Kilo 50 because of disputes over land ownership. Mohamed Wad Abouk, one of the leaders of the Misseriya described to Radio Dabanga the incidents as “isolated and contained”. He called on the government to immediately intervene to resolve the land issue, and “deter the outlaws” in West Kordofan.
