Intensive air raids on Darfur’s East Jebel Marra
Dozens of cattle were killed and vast areas of farmland and pastures burned to ashes as a result of heavy air raids by the Sudanese Air Force on Sunday on Wadi Toro in East Jebel Marra. Mustafa Tambur, the military spokesperson for the Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahid El Nur (SLM-AW) explained to Radio Dabanga the rationale behind these air raids. The Sudan Armed Forces moved a battalion from Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur State in the direction of Lokoro locality in East Jebel Marra. The SLM-AW forces are currently besieging the battalion. “Therefore, the Air Force is using Antonovs to try to lift the siege.” Tambur said that the Antonov has dropped more than 28 incendiary ‘petrol bombs’ on Sunday on Wadi Toro. According to the spokesperson, the intensive bombing killed dozens of cattle and torched a large number of farmlands, with crops to be harvested.
