The citizens of Seraf Omra in North Darfur complained of a noticeable increase in the prices of the goods and consumables which coincided with the beginning of the rainy season. One of the residents of the area said that the price for a sack of millet flour has suddenly risen from 120 to 145 and a sack of onions have become worth 50 pounds while oil has reached 135 per bottle. Some food items retained their earlier value such as sheep meat which is still at 16 pounds per kilo and beef which is at 14 pounds. Sugar costs 2.5 SDG for a pound. Another thing which saw an increase in its price is tomato paste, now worth 17 per pound.
Traders fear that they will have to shut down their shops because the rains could lead to further increases in prices. The incomes of residents are decreasing compared their daily needs.
