Infant injured in Hamidiya camp firing

Camp coordinator accuses government forces of indiscriminate shootingA 14-month-old infant was injured when unidentified persons opened fire in Zalingei’s Hamidiya camp on Monday.Abdul Basit Ahmad suffered injuries to his right hand and has been taken to the Zalingei hospital for treatment. Abdul’s mother was cradling him when the bullet struck.A Zalingei camp coordinator, who does not wish to be named, accused government forces of being behind the indiscriminate firing. He told Radio Dabanga, “The random shootings and intimidation of displaced persons in the camps is coordinated by the government to expel the displaced persons.”He added that he had informed the United Nationals African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) of the incident.Earlier this week, Radio Dabanga had reported about the Hamidiya camps being abandoned because of lack of humanitarian organisations in the area.Zalingei has three major camps for internally displaced people (IDPs) – the Hassahissa, Khamsa Dagayeg and Hamidiya.
