Radio Dabanga was saddened to hear of the passing of our colleague, friend and brother William in the morning of 25 February.
William Vito Akuar volunteered for Radio Dabanga central desk for a year, he was a kind and compassionate person. He provided great contributions to the radio with professionalism, diligence, impartiality and dedication. In Sudan he had served as Press Secretary for the Vice President George Kongor Arop and later as Minister of Transportation and Information in Bahr el-Ghazal state. In recent months he travelled to South Sudan to follow his dream: he was dedicated to helping rebuild his country and train young journalists.
Radio Dabanga phoned William two weeks ago and he updated the Radio with his activities and the trainings he had executed in South Sudan. He also told that he would return to the Netherlands on Monday, 20 February. He couldn’t make it because he felt ill. His soul sought to be rested in his beloved beautiful city Wau in South Sudan. Our thoughts and prayers are for his wife Christina Poni Daniel Jumi and her family in this difficult time. We will miss you William.
