Militant herders are besieging Sese camp for the displaced in Murnei in West Darfur since Friday. Today they shot a camp resident dead.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, the coordinator of the Murnei camps reported that armed herdsmen shot a resident of the Sese camp this (Monday) morning. “He was fatally hit by their bullets when he was trying to leave the camp.”
The coordinator explained that last week a relative of the herders was found dead in the wilderness not far from the camp.
“The herders immediately accused the displaced of killing the woman,” he said. “They surrounded the camp on Friday and threatened to kill anyone who would attempt to enter or leave the camp.”
He reported that the people in the camp are living in great fear, as the herdsmen have threatened to set fire to the camp. “What is worse is that they are unable to fetch water from the well, visit their farms, or buy daily requirements from Murnei.”
