Heavy rains in West Darfur – 20 houses at camp Ardamata collapse
At camp Ardamata for displaced persons in El Geneina locality in West Darfur, 20 houses have collapsed due to heavy rains. A sheikh from the camp reported to Radio Dabanga that heavy seasonal rains over the weekend led to the collapse of the houses and consequently the re-displacement of numerous people. “The displaced are suffering in tragic conditions,” the sheikh said. “There is a severe shortage of plastic sheets. Their price has gone up to SDG150 ($34), which the displaced can simply not afford.” The sheikh appealed to the authorities and humanitarian organisations to speed providing relief and plastic sheets to the victims. “Especially the children and the elderly are suffering terribly in the camp,” the sheikh concluded.
