Heavy rainfall destroys hundreds of homes, farmlands in Darfur
In Central Darfur, rains and floods wiped away more than 200 houses, and destroyed 300 acres of farmlands in Um Shalaya, Azum locality, on Monday. A farmer from Um Shalaya appealed via Radio Dabanga to the government of Central Darfur State and aid organisations to “extend a helping hand to the affected”. More than 20 homes collapsed in Abdel Jabar, Ardeba, and Toro camps in Kass locality, South Darfur, on Tuesday, the coordinator of the Kass camps told Radio Dabanga. He urged relief organisations to intervene “as soon as possible”. On Tuesday too, 350 homes collapsed in the area of Foro Baranga, West Darfur. “Floods in Wadi Azum destroyed 350 homes and vast tracts of farmlands in the area”, a resident of Foro Baranga informed Radio Dabanga. He called on the West Darfur State authorities and relief organisations to provide tarpaulins and tents to the affected “as soon as possible”.
