Health centre pillaged, civilians robbed in Darfur
The health centre of Dereig camp for the displaced in Nyala locality, South Darfur, was pillaged on Saturday. In Tawila, North Darfur, militiamen stole property and money from civilians on the same day. “At about midnight on Saturday, nine government-backed militiamen stormed the health centre of the Dereig camp, and stole large quantities of medicines and medical equipment”, one of the camp sheikhs reported to Radio Dabanga. “The centre did not open on Sunday, which increased the suffering of the patients.” The patients’ relatives appealed to the South Darfur State’s authorities and Unamid to carry out their duties and protect the camp from such attacks. “They urged them to open the centre as soon as possible, in particularly because it is the only health centre in the camp.” In Tawila, North Darfur, militiamen on Saturday robbed citizen Abdallah Adam Ishag of SDG20,000 ($3,500) and a camel on Saturday. They also stole a laptop computer and three mobile phones from Ahmed Abdel Aziz, an employee of Doctors Without Borders, an eyewitness told Radio Dabanga. The source said that a joint army and Central Reserve Police force chased the gunmen. The robbers, however, refused to return the stolen money and goods.
