Health centre accused of supplying market with IDP camp medicines

A leader at Abu Shouk internally displaced persons camp in North Darfur, accused doctors at a German health centre of supplying medicines to the local market to be sold in pharmacies, causing a lack of medicines needed at the camp. The camp leader said another issue at the health centre was the difficulty of registration for patients on the day they wished to be seen. He said patients complained that on arrival at the centre, doctors would often tell them registration lists were full for the day, and to come back at a different time. This was causing delays in treatment for patients who would then return to the camp. The leader said this was helping to spread infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and skin conditions particularly amongst children. He called on health authorities to intervene and address these issues. Major General Mahmoud Mahjoub said the Ministry of Health in North Darfur will investigate the camp leader’s allegations of the German health centre supplying medicines to the market. He said if the accusations prove to be true, those responsible will be held accountable.
