Hamar, Ma’aliya start conference in West Kordofan
On Tuesday, a reconciliation conference between leaders of the Hamar and Ma’aliya tribes began in El Fula, West Kordofan. The conference aims at definitely ending the tensions between the warring tribes, after fierce clashes erupted between the Hamar and Ma’aliya in West Kordofan in April this year. At least 50 people were killed. Leaders of the warring tribes will discuss the losses caused by the fighting, compensation and blood money, the tribesmen who went missing, as well as the question of land and pasture rights. Hamdan Abdallah Tirab, Ma’aliya MP for East Darfur’s Abu Karinka constituency, told Radio Dabanga that he expects that both tribes will reach a peace agreement.
