Gunmen storm Bindisi market, Central Darfur

Government institutions, schools, and shops closed their doors, and citizens hid inside their homes, when militiamen raided the market of Bindisi in Central Darfur on Thursday. “Gunmen in three Land Cruisers and nine motorcycles stormed Bindisi market sat 7am on Thursday. They fired in the air, terrorising the people,” a vendor at the market reported Radio Dabanga. “After repeated attempts by the police to convince them to leave, the gunmen withdrew.” The vendor complained about the dense presence of militiamen in Bindisi locality. “They are blocking the roads, assaulting and stealing as they like. From Sunday until Thursday, a number of assaults and armed robberies took place.”“On Tuesday, three commercial vehicles were ambushed, the passengers robbed of their belongings, and the vehicles’ full load taken, and on Wednesday, armed robbers clashed with guards of a commercial convoy.” Tribal clashes In Um Dukhun locality, Central Darfur’s Security Committee has buried 21 bodies found after the widespread clashes between Salamat and Misseriya tribesmen over the weekend. The Committee was not able to access the site of the battle, near Muradaf.People living in the area east of Um Dukhun town heard sounds of missiles and heavy shooting on Tuesday and Wednesday, but could not provide any details to Radio Dabanga.
