On Tuesday, militiamen forced the Bindisi Hospital in Central Darfur to pay compensation for a miscarriage at the hospital.
A staff member told Radio Dabanga that a pregnant woman in her sixth month came to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
“Doctor Bereima Haroun examined her, and prescribed a medication. Yet, not long after she took the medicine, she miscarried.
“In response, the militiamen gathered in front of the hospital, threatened to attack the medical staff unless they would pay 50 cows as compensation.”
The source said that the police and a number of community elders intervened. “After negotiations, they agreed on the payment of SDG38,000 ($6,235) as compensation.”
The hospital administration, however, decided to no longer accept patients from the militia settlements.
